What I Learned at the Spinning Babies Workshop
Yesterday I attended an all-day workshop hosted by Gail Tully of Spinning Babies. It was an amazing opportunity for me to learn about these techniques from the lady who put it all together!
I’ve been familiar with the Spinning Babies website for quite some time, and if my former clients look through it they’ll probably recognize some of the moves! The techniques for mom encourage baby to move to the optimal fetal position for childbirth, and as a doula I use these techniques with a Mom who is about to go into labor or is in early labor. The concept is that if Mom can achieve balance in her pelvis and her muscles, Baby will be able to rotate easily into the chin-tucked, head-down left anterior position.
There are a lot of factors that come into play here! I always recommend chiropractic care to my clients, and they’ve all agreed this has been a wonderful way to prepare for labor. Mom can also do seemingly little things, like sitting with correct posture and performing short little exercises toward the end of pregnancy, that will help her body and her little one prepare for birth.
We also learned about “belly mapping,” which is a technique for helping Mom figure out the position of her baby inside of her! This was very neat to watch, and can be helpful for Mom to know as she nears the end of her pregnancy!
I am very excited to use these techniques with my clients now that I have a better understanding of how they work!
